Perception of self is what will drive your quest for clear skin, and it is a very important topic I’m going to touch on today. Continue reading
The yogurt face mask and zinc oxide vs. prone-to-scarring skin
At a reader’s suggestion, I tried a yogurt face mask the other night. I used plain yogurt only, smoothing the probiotic-rich cream over my skin, leaving the standard ring of clearance around my eyes. I left it on for five minutes.
When I wiped it away with a warm washcloth, I was pleased with the results. My skin felt just as smooth as it ever had with a commercial mask, and my pores appeared smaller without my skin having that ‘I need moisture’ feeling.
The only downside was the yogurt itself; I couldn’t do much more than sit on the couch while wearing it. This isn’t a huge hindrance considering it only gets left on for five minutes, and perhaps a smaller quantity wouldn’t have been so unstable.
All in all, I liked the experiment. Thank you for the suggestion, Raylene!
Now we’re going to look at an issue I’ve had in the past: Skin that scars easily. I’ve been cursed with this, though I tend to tolerate scars everywhere but on my face. Many of them have interesting stories, like the six puncture scars on both my arms where I was attacked by a dog.
The scars on my lower legs, however, are a nuisance, especially with summer rolling in hot temperatures so quickly. These scars are from horseback riding in jeans without half chaps or tall boots. Continue reading
Yogurt and your skin—what you’re missing out on
Yogurt might just be that secret ingredient you need for clear skin.
For my career, I’m a freelance medical writer, and that daily delving into the medical world has given me an inside view of recent studies, new medication, and the latest in holistic remedies. It also occasionally gives me a glimpse into something that might benefit my skin.
Case in point: I was writing an article on a recent study from M.I.T regarding the effects of a yogurt supplemented diet in laboratory mice. The end result was mice with shinier fur, slimmer appearances, better maternal instincts, and an enhanced “attractiveness” to their mates. Continue reading
Sugar scrubs, coconut oil, and iron tablets
I did something really foolish a few weeks ago.
I had a deep-seated pimple that looked like it took up half my face (at least in my opinion), so I took a needle and lanced it.
That’s not the really foolish part, though I know better than to pop pimples in any way, shape, or form.
What I did that was really foolish, though I didn’t know it at the time, was to put powdered iron on it once it began to bleed. In my mind, iron helps oxygen levels in the blood stream, so it must be beneficial to put on an open wound. Continue reading
Let’s talk Mary Kay and apple cider vinegar
I’ve been missing for a few weeks. I wasn’t off on a grand adventure like I would have preferred, but I’ve been nonetheless travelling through an experience of skin care that has left me both delighted and disappointed.
Since I am a sucker for trying new things, I ventured out to a Mary Kay party. I enjoyed the social time and the makeup products, and the saleslady was deviously passive aggressive. I left with a purchase of cream facial cleanser and moisturizer as well as mineral foundation and a special applicator brush. Continue reading
Wanna say goodbye to acne? How long you wash your face matters
I stumbled on some interesting research the other day about circulation and the health benefits of deep tissue massage. Massage increases circulation which promotes waste elimination of the cells and revascularization (the building and strengthening of blood vessels). One of the
reasons women suffer from cellulite is because that particular type of fat build-up is almost completely void of blood flow. If you ask a professional, they’ll tell you that it’s not the cellulite cream that helps reduce the appearance of cellulite, it’s the massage action which helps create blood flow to those areas of the body. Think about this science applied to your face; massaging your skin will help reduce redness, eliminate the red marks left from acne, and decrease inflammation. Continue reading

Yes, it’s true; you don’t have to be plagued with oily skin any longer than it takes you to finish reading this post. As the Queen of Oily Skin, I have finally perfected the routine to banish it completely from my complaint dialogue. I would even go so far as to say, if you follow this routine for one week, you’ll see a drastic improvement in your shine factor. There are, of course, no guarantees, but try it and see what you think! Continue reading

Make Your Own Clay Facial Mask
I have found another great instructional video for do-it-yourself skin care. This walks you through making your own homemade clay mask. You can buy different clay powders here and essential oils to add to the recipe here. In addition to the video, I have found a couple basic recipes that can be manipulated at home for use with different clay, oils, and ingredients. Continue reading
My Favorite Acne And Skin Care Products All In One Place
The support of this bog has been heartwarming, and I realize it would be helpful to many of my readers if they could purchase the products I recommend without having to search all over the Internet. I have compiled a Skin Care TipsX product store, and I will be adding to it as the blog continues.
The store holds most of the mentioned items on this site. Currently, I have many of the oil cleansing method oils I have used, the acne products I’ve tried, and the hard-to-find (or so I thought) treatments previously available through the manufacturer only.
Visit the Skin Care TipsX Store now, and make sure to add it to your list of favorites!
